Gun control and dehumanizing political opponents

If you think that you care about someone's children more than she does because you disagree with her on public policy, you are the one with the lack of empathy. You are also an arrogant, proud elitist.

I am a supporter of gun rights. I also have two sons. In addition to that, I have a number of nieces and nephews, and even more great nieces and great nephews. The thought of any of them being murdered in a mass shooting is horrifying. I do not care about children less than you do because I have a different opinion on public policy and the best way to ensure people's safety.

Granted, some gun-rights supporters have spewed smears too. The idea that the news media loves mass shootings is absurd and is an unjustifiable smear. While I would note that such rhetoric is not as bad because it is uttered in self-defense, personal attacks against you do not justify lying about someone else. It is a violation of God's commandments and it makes a rational discussion impossible because everyone is too busy lobbing and deflecting personal attacks to discuss policy.

Can we agree on a simple premise when we talk about gun control policy? We all hate it when an innocent person is killed, especially if the victim is a child. Nobody in the gun control debate is indifferent to protecting children from gun violence. What we have is a fundamental disagreement on the best way to protect people, and the relative importance of Second Amendment rights to our overall safety in public and private.

What Leftists spewing these smears need to understand is this: Every time they damn gun rights supporters as morally deficient because we disagree with you on policy, you make gun control more difficult. We see you coming for our rights and implementing bad, harmful policies. We see you coming for us directly, and since you see us as evil (or at least amoral) people, we have no interest in your moral shaming and virtue signaling. We are not interested in a dialogue because you are not interested in a dialogue.
