Random thoughts of the day

By Scott Tibbs, September 27, 2013

♣ - We have seen a number of stories about how difficult it is to live on food stamps, but the very name of the program (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) indicates that food stamps are meant to be a supplement, not the only source of food. This is underscored by the work requirements that are tied to benefits but have unfortunately been weakened in the last few years.

♣ - For President Obama to include Fort Hood with domestic acts of gun violence is simply obscene. Fort Hood was not a crime, it was an act of war by a sworn enemy of the United States. Obama's view of this does explain his administration petulantly refusing to give Purple Hearts to the service members who were wounded in that terrorist attack.

♣ - Are you ready for government recognition of polygamy, to go along with homosexual marriage? Do not think this is only the domain of Leftist college students, as we will be seeing a serious push for this. Once the standard of marriage between one man and one woman is abolished, what is the logical merit in refusing to recognize other preferences? One could argue that the argument for polygamy is more historically and theologically sound than homosexual marriage.

♣ - Another day, another wacko Leftist wishing death upon the children of political opponents. This is certainly not new, as this professor is following in the footsteps of Nina Totenberg, who once wished that Jesse Helms' grandchildren would get AIDS.

♣ - The accusation that opponents of military action in Syria are "isolationists" is as un-serious as it is dishonest. True isolationism - the idea that we should retreat to within our borders - is not being argued. Opposition to military intervention is not isolationism. Furthermore, opposing military action does not mean doing nothing, as there are many things that can be done, from sanctions to diplomacy to humanitarian aid.

♣ - A pornographic movie producer has announced they will mandate condoms in sex scenes to reduce the risk of spreading sexually transmitted diseases. The problem here is that "actors" in porn engage in inherently high-risk and potentially lethal activity, because of the huge number of sexual partners they have. (To say nothing of the abuse of women that is rampant in the industry.) It is enough to think the Holy Spirit was right when He inspired the Apostle Paul to write the following in I Corinthians 6:18 - "Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body."
