In his letter to the editor, Dan Enslow makes the absolutely absurd claim that "the Virginia Tech shooter and the suicide bombers in the Baghdad markets have at their essential core a seed of goodness — each are seeking to create a better world."
Wrong, sir. Seung-Hui Cho was simply evil. Someone who walks into an academic building and slaughters innocent people is simply evil. Cho is in Hell right now. Muslim suicide bombers who murder innocent women and children are simply evil. They are also in Hell right now. When Cho and the Muslim suicide bombers burn for a hundred trillion millennia in Hell, their suffering will have only begun.
Using Enslow's twisted logic, Adolf Hitler had at his "essential core a seed of goodness". He thought he was trying to make the world a better place by killing millions of Jews. The same could be said of the other psychotic killer behind the murder of millions, Josef Stalin. After all, Stalin was only trying to create a perfect worker's paradise through Communism.
It is difficult for some people to accept, but the fact is that there are people in this world who are just plain evil. There is no rational or altruistic reason for why they behave the way they do. They either take pleasure from hurting others or are filled with so much rage and hatred that they must eliminate those they perceive as enemies.
It is not easy for some people to admit there is pure evil in the world. They want to be compassionate and give others a chance. However, the existence of pure evil is something that all rational adults need to recognize, so we can protect ourselves from it and, if necessary, take steps to neutralize or eliminate it.
