Christians must be faithful to Scripture

Bloomington Herald-Times, March 11, 2008.

To the Editor:

We often hear that "we all worship the same God" or that there are many paths to Heaven. I am deeply saddened when I hear Christians say this. The Bible is very clear (see John 14:6 and Acts 4:12) that Jesus Christ is the only path to salvation. Simply put, if Christianity is true, no other religion can be true. Furthermore, if any other religion is true, Christianity cannot be true.

This is why I was so disappointed last year when a few Christian churches in Bloomington participated in interfaith ceremonies. By placing the false gods of Hinduism, Buddhism and Islam on the same stage as Jesus Christ, these local Christian ministers denied Jesus Christ. Those who put any other religion on the same level as Christianity are practicing hatred, telling people condemned by their sins that they do not need the substitutionary atonement of Jesus Christ in order to be redeemed. Lost souls need a Savior.

We all have the Constitutional right to worship, or not worship, as our conscience leads us, without interference from government. But those who claim the name of Jesus Christ must be faithful to Scripture, even when faithfulness to Scripture is not politically correct.
