The 2005 Rally for Life

To the editor:

January 22 will be the 32nd anniversary of Roe vs. Wade, the Supreme Court decision that threw out laws against abortion in all 50 states. To remember this sad decision, Monroe County Right to Life and IU Students for Life will hold the annual Rally for Life at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 23, at the Monroe County Courthouse.

Roe vs. Wade led to the tragic deaths of well over 40 million lives in only 30 years since the Supreme Court declared that those not yet born are unworthy of the right to equal protection under the law guaranteed by the Fourteenth Amendment. While the Supreme Court is the highest legal authority in the land, we must remember that those nine justices are human beings and are thus prone to mistakes like everyone else.

With expected vacancies on the Supreme Court in the next four years, President Bush will be nominating pro-life justices who may reverse the mistake made in 1973. I encourage my fellow Hoosiers to lobby Senators Bayh and Lugar in support of the president's nominees. Please come to the Rally for Life to show our community that we believe in God's command of Proverbs 24:11-12.
