Don't subsidize abortionists

By Scott Tibbs, June 1, 1999

An open letter to the Bloomington City Council:

Dear Council Member:

It has come to my attention that the City of Bloomington is planning to give Planned Parenthood of Central and Southern Indiana several thousand dollars do they can purchase medical examining tables.

As you know, one of the main services Planned Parenthood provides is the procedure of abortion. Right here in Bloomington, Planned Parenthoods abortionists have killed many babies on Thursday mornings.

I have strong philosophical and moral objections to abortion, and the fact that the tax dollars of hard working Bloomington residents are going to an organization that is involved in the termination of human life is very disappointing to me. I have a firm belief that the City Council should respect the deeply held religious, moral, and philosophical convictions of many pro-life Bloomington residents, and decide not to fund Planned Parenthood.

I do not know that these examining tables will be used in any way to support the abortion business of Planned Parenthood in Bloomington. Perhaps they will, perhaps they will not. But whether the City Council will be directly supporting the abortions occurring at Planned Parenthood is not relevant to me. What is relevant is that the City Council will be funding an organization that I believe is very involved in the brutal, intentional destruction of innocent human life.

I do not believe that this is an issue of whether one supports legalized abortion or not. I think the issue is whether Bloomington residents with deeply held convictions about abortion should be forced to fund an organization that performs abortions.

Many on the council may consider themselves pro-choice. If abortion supporters on the City Council are truly pro-choice, they will defeat this amendment rather than force pro-life Bloomington citizens to fund this organization.

I am only one voter, but I am sure I speak for many pro-life Bloomington residents who would be deeply disappointed if their tax dollars were to subsidize Planned Parenthood's abortionists, directly or indirectly. Please consider the objections raised in this letter, and decide not to fund Planned Parenthood.

Thank you for your time.
